Okay..I'm trying to play a video on a certain website on Safari on my MacBook, and I keep getting this error message that says that the page 'has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.'
What does this mean, and how can I get this application?

Application/x Mplayer2 Plugin Not Supported Chrome

Application/x-mplayer2 Plugin Not Supported Chrome

Do you have the latest version of Flip4Mac or Real Player installed?
Have you tried to view in another browser? If the video works in another browser, then the problem is with Safari.
Which version of Safari are you using?
It would also help if you still have trouble, please provide a specific URL/link for people to look at.

  • One URL I visit pops up a warning that I don't have a 'MIME type 'application/x-mplayer2' plug-in installed, so I can't use certain portions of the site. Where can I find such a plug-in? Is it a popular plug-in that is used by other sites?

I've never come across this plugin before - doubt it's widely used - but it might refer to MPlayer OS X, MPlayer Plug-in or Windows Media, I'm not sure. Try out MPlayer Plug-in first.

Wher do i get this plug-in from? Or is it as simple as changing a setting on the system?

Hi Percy and welcome to the forums!
Wher do i get this plug-in from? Or is it as simple as changing a setting on the system?
Probably a bit of both. Try this:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • When trying to listen to web pages conatining mp3 audio files (prior to purchasing them) , Safari comes up with a message saying that MIME type “application/x-mplayer2” is not installed and only downloads the html file and not the mp3 file. When we check on our installed plug-ins in Safari, MIME type “application/x-mplayer2” has been installed.
How do we fix this? We are using Safari Version 2.0.2 (416.12) OSX 10.4.3. It works on one of our older machines running Safari Version 1.3.1 (v312.3.3) OSX 10.3.9

  • I use Safari to visit websites that run Nagios, a network management system. When something
is wrong, Nagios displays web pages that have an imbedded object that's of MIME type
    'application/x-mplayer2'. Safari displays a pop-up that says
Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in.
The page 'Nagios' has a content of MIME type
    'application/x-mplayer2'. Because you don't have a
plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content
    can't be displayed.
I can navigate directly to file .wav file and Safari (QuickTime?) plays the sound. I think
I need to get 'application/x-mplayer2' added to the list of MIME types that the QuickTime
plug-in handles. Is there a way to do that?
I know that QuickTime has a System Preferences pane, with an 'Advanced' tab with a
'MIME Settings' button. That doesn't help - it controls MIME types that QuickTime supports,
not the MIME types that the QuickTime plug-in supports.
Also, I had Window Media Player installed, but it gave 'One or more arguments are not valid'.

    Try this:

  • I want to watch mlb.com baseball games but I get a message that says I have to have a MIME type plug-in 'application/x-mplayer2'. Where can I get this? I tried searching it and when I find it I always get a message that saysI don't have something so I can't get there from here. Help.

OK, I downloaded it and installed it. But I still can't get the MLBTV.com games. MLBTV.com has these system requirements:
    OS X or above PowerPC G4 or later (700mhz & up) 512MB RAM + Broadband (cable/DSL/T-1)
Media Player: Mozilla 1.x (Firefox 1.0.7),
Browsing: Safari 1.3 / Mozilla 1.x Windows Media Player 9.0 or above, Flash Player 7 or above

and is not working help please

To cover all (well most of) the cases you should install Flip4Mac (for .wmv files) and Perian (for many other formats) Vlc is one of the most general players avalable.

  • Because you don't have a plug in installed for this type of Mime this content can't be displayed.

  • Firefox has not allowed my computer to shut down normally for months.
I created a whole new user with a new Firefox profile, but when I quit Firefox or try to do a shutdown, Firefox closes it's windows but leaves the small dot under it's icon on the doc. Force quitting does nothing. If I click on the icon I get nothing if I go to the application folder and double click on Firefox, I get this: The application “Firefox.app” is not open anymore.
I'm using Chrome because the only way to run firefox (without a forced shutdown) is to copy the Firefox app to another name and run that. BTW, I've also deleted all the parentlock files from my system (several times). If this cannot be solved I'll have to switch to Chrome (as much as I hate Google)!

  • Although the Safari page gives me a link for Firefox for Windows, I'm - obviously - using Safari on windows and when trying to load video highlights, I get the following error:
    MIME: application/x-mplayer2
Basically needed to run my video, now, it directs me towards Windows and their site but nowt here either..this is bugging me endlessly because I have to use Explorer then and it's SO slow.
    Please help!
    Thank You

    Hiya,
I'm not too familiar with where Windows stores Internet Plugins but the plugin installer you ran earlier should have placed a 'np-mswmp.dll' file somewhere. Have a search on your hard drive for it and assuming you find it, move it to this folder:
    C:Program FilesSafariPlugins
Quit Safari if it's running and relaunch it to pick up the plugin. If it's still not working, can you check the Help menu > Installed Plug-ins to see if it is actually listed there or not.
Good luck this afty with the blades Leeds made hard work of it yesterday..

  • Greetings from a new MacBook owner (though I do have a iMac G5 20')!
Anyway I am trying to play (application/x-mplayer2) file (from the Cingular store) and it doesn't work. I tried to download the flip4mac and it won't load on the MacBook. So do I have any other options to preview this type of file or am I just out of luck until Microsoft makes the universal binary?
    Thanks for any advice!
    Duane..

Just to directly address your last question, you need to run your Apple Installer under Rosetta before unpacking the Flip4Mac component installer.
Go to Harddrive < Applications < Utilities < Installer. Right-click 'get info' on the installer icon and choose Rosetta. Close.
Now go back and double-click on the package entitled Flip4Mac WMV.mpkg (which is within the .dmg file you downloaded from the F4M site). Your installation will proceed successfully.
On your first question, if you could post a link, I'll take a look at the specific issue.

  • Hi All:
I know this has been asked and answered so many time that I am sorry to post again. However, I have read many of the prior posts, tired the fixes, and still the problem persists. All of a sudden, without any erxplanation I know of, PDF links do not open within Safari, as in the past, but instead revert to the Downloads and open in Preview.
    MacBook Pro OS: 10.6.8
    Safari: 5.1.7
I have two other accounts set up and they both open PDF links within Safari.
I have downloaded Adobe Reader again, checked my plugins. I can’t locate any Adobe plugins on either my home account or hard drive, restarted, etc.
If possible, can someone try and offer assistance. It's one of those things which is bugging me and have been struggling with for the past three hours.
    thank you.

    Hi Linc:
You and Carolyn seem to tbe the go to people for this issue.
When I pull up the plug0ins from the Help Menu, I get an entire page. I've tried copying it below.
What really confuses me is that it works fine in my other accounts and I can't determine what is different in this account.
    thanks,
    val
